As a professional longarm quilter for over 20 years, my engineer hubby has designed (and built) several things for my quilt studio. Together, we made t-shirt quilts for over 15 years, and he was an integral part of the process.
One of the tools was this batting rack. Holds a full roll of double folded batting. The measuring tape on the side makes it easy to pull out the batting, and measure the amount needed. Using a rotary cutter, it's easy to use the built in cutting mat to cut the amount of batting needed.
We pretty much use one type of batting, Hobbs, 80/20. This batting rack fit snuggly under 2' x 8' table and easily dispensed batting with a cutting area. We have been selling this pattern for over ten years on Craftsy.
The Shadywood Batting Rack pattern is designed to conveniently dispense a standard 96"* **roll of batting, while fitting underneath a long-arm quilting machine or folding table. It includes a cutting surface for a rotary cutter, as well as a measuring tape to measure the batting as it comes off of the roll.
* Hobbs batting, while proclaiming 96" is usually more like 100" to 102", resulting in the width of the bolt being wider (than half of) the 96" Love their batting!
** For home crafters using the 48" width bolts, this works perfectly for that as well, since the batting is not folded in half.
